Much of our community has been planned around a love affair with the car. The result has been a collection of disconnected housing developments, aged buildings, strip shopping centers and parking lots. In dire need is the congested Pikesville business district with its vacant buildings and bland appearance. Pikesville requires reshaping to create attractive boulevards lined with village areas where residents can live, shop, work and play.
Reshaping requires imaginative planning to get the right mix of retail, residential and office space that will make the community seem less remote and more intimate.
The end product will be a more attractive community where people want to live. This will lead to an increasing demand for housing, raising real estate values, ensuring full school populations and creating job opportunities.
