The impoundment of Dam No. 5 begins at McCoys Ferry for 7 miles to the Dam. The deeper water and absence of rocks, brings recreational power boating, and on summer weekends, a bit of a distraction.

The next take-out is at the Four Locks Recreation Area, 2 miles prior to the Dam. To reach Four Locks, take I-70 Exit 18, Clear Spring, left on Mulberry Rd. left to Big Spring Rd
