--- HANCOCK TO MCCOYS FERRY ---
Leaving Hancock, the Potomac runs a strong, flat course, even at low water. The scenery is fine. The downside of this section is the proximity to I-70. Once you make your adjustment to the noise, the run becomes enjoyable. Figure on 5 hours for the 14 miles. You may shorten the distance with a take out at Ft. Frederick, which is not easy to spot.
To reach McCoys Ferry, take Exit 12, I-70, Big Pool, to Md. 56, east, right on McCoys Ferry Rd.
