--- BALTIMORE AND ANNAPOLIS TRAIL ---
This former rail road bed is now a popular 13.3 asphalt escape to nature from the malls and housing developments though which it goes. It is straight and flat, used by walkers, bikers, joggers, roller bladders, and is wheel chair accessible.
It is located within a heavily populated area, so expect weekend crowds. The northern portion crosses busy roads for which one must yield to cars, so my suggestion is the southern section. Take Benfield Boulevard Exit 10 off of I-97 to the Trail and south to Annapolis.
The Trail parallels Md Rt 2 and can be accessed by taking any road west between Glen Burnie and Arnold. At its northern end, it joins the 12.5 mile BWI Trail, which encircles the airport. There is a ranger station at Earleigh Heights (Mile 7), housed in a brightly colored Victorian age building.
